Leave No Trace Visual

Leave No Trace Isn’t a Rulebook—It’s a Mindset

Every trail we walk is a shared space. Leave No Trace helps us protect the natural beauty and cultural significance of wild places—so that future hikers, animals, and ecosystems can thrive long after we’ve passed through.

The 7 Principles of Leave No Trace

  • 1. Plan Ahead and Prepare: Research the trail, weather, and regulations so you’re ready to hike responsibly.
  • 2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces: Stick to marked trails and campsites to avoid erosion and habitat damage.
  • 3. Dispose of Waste Properly: Pack it in, pack it out. Bury human waste when necessary, and never leave food scraps.
  • 4. Leave What You Find: Rocks, flowers, and artifacts stay in place—take only photos and memories.
  • 5. Minimize Campfire Impact: Use a stove or existing fire rings, and follow local fire regulations.
  • 6. Respect Wildlife: Observe animals from a distance, never feed them, and store food securely.
  • 7. Be Considerate of Others: Yield to uphill hikers, keep noise low, and share trails with gratitude.

Beyond the Basics: Sustainability for Hikers

Leave No Trace is just the beginning. Sustainable hiking is about reducing our overall impact—from gear choices to how we travel to trails.

  • Use reusable water bottles, filter systems, and bulk-packed food to avoid single-use plastics.
  • Buy second-hand or durable gear you can repair and reuse.
  • Choose eco-friendly transport when possible: trains, buses, carpools.
  • Support local trail communities through homestays, markets, and local guides.
